Tuesday

Spelling Book

Do your list and complete your pages in your Spelling Book.

Typing

Practice typing for 20 minutes.

To access your typing practice, go to typing.com and choose "student log-in" in the upper right. Your username is your name+fhms, for example mine would be lynnfhms. Your password is "hello"

Nature Art Mandala

Find leaves, flowers, rocks and other natural items in your back yard or on a walk.
Show your child how to create a circle with the items and show how mandalas are made of patterns.
Show an example of how to make items symmetric. Prepare your child that nature art comes and goes and will not last forever, but the beauty it creates is a real gift to all that gets to see it. Below is a picture of the mandalas that I created with my children. This  sparked a light with each of my children and we took it a step further and started researching mandalas of all kinds.

Wednesday

Spelling Choice

Do your spelling "choice" work.

Practice using your spelling word list in some way. You may decide to draw pictures of each word and label them, you could write sentences using the word, you could create a word search (check out this online word search maker http://puzzlemaker.discoveryeducation.com/WordSearchSetupForm.asp) and then complete it, you could write each word three times, or??? use your own idea.

Number of the Week

This week's number is 19.

Please answer the following questions:

1. Write the numeral

2. Draw the quantity

3. Plot the number on a number line

4. Find the factors of the number. (Remember that you can use any item around the house that you have a handful of to find the factors, like pennies or driveway rocks...etc)

Salt Water Density Experiment

For this saltwater experiment you will need:

  • Either small plastic jewels, raw eggs or small grapes
  • Several clear cups of water
  • Salt
  • Sugar
  • Baking soda

Dissolve 2 tablespoons of salt in one cup, 2 tablespoons of sugar in another cup and 2 tablespoons of baking soda in the third cup. Leave one cup with plain fresh water as it is our controlled variable. Be sure to label each cup to avoid confusion about which is which.

Have your student predict what will happen when they drop their chosen object into each cup, and which mixture will be the densest. Will it sink or float?

Drop the objects into each cup, was your student right?

 Which mixture was densest?

Is there a difference in each cups color?

Was there anything that surprised you in this experiment?

Earth Day Celebration

Choose an activity from the list of ideas that we have been creating at morning group! This list may be updated throughout the week.

Thursday

Spelling Test

Ask a family member to give you your spelling test! If you get less than 5 words incorrect, write each misspelled word correctly five times for extra practice. If you get 5 or more words incorrect, start your next week with a new list consisting of the misspelled words.

Researh Project

Decide how you would like to present your research project. Will it be book style? On a presentation board or piece of cardboard? Would you like to do a power point presentation? Gather any remaining facts or images needed and let Lynn know how you would like to present. We will look at power point presentations this week at group, if you are unfamiliar.

Care of the Environment

Find a chore that you can do to help around the house. Some ideas are: cleaning the bathtub, folding laundry, sweeping the porch, repotting a plant? Look around the house for a need and meet that need with a smile. If you need help with ideas, ask your parent/guardian.

Friday

Handwriting Practice

Do 3 pages in your handwriting book.

Khan Academy

Visit khanacademy.org and spend 30 minutes working on your assigned activities.
